The last few years have been defined by consistent disruption. People, businesses and government services have all had to quickly adapt to the challenges of COVID, the Ukraine conflict and economic volatility. As these experiences have changed the very fabric of society, citizens' demands have also evolved. People expect greater choice; better work/life balance and more accessible services across every aspect of their lives. As a result, from payments to policing, policy to prescriptions, digitalisation is fast becoming a standard that has to be met and the public sector must stay ahead of this curve.
However, this is no easy task, delivering effective digital government will require public services to improve their data infrastructure and cybersecurity capabilities while also designing agile public services that can respond to the diverse needs of modern Britain. These challenges are amplified by budgetary constraints, geopolitical uncertainty and changing government policy. Yet as the pandemic proved, the public sector is able to rapidly and comprehensively deliver digital change which must now act as a foundation to go even further and successfully transform citizens' expectations and relationship with government.
This panel, hosted by the Financial Times, in partnership with Google Cloud, will explore the challenges the public sector is facing in its pursuit of digital transformation, how changing public demands are driving this and the positive outcomes successfully doing so will offer both citizens and the public sector itself.
